REGISTER NOW! 10th Annual MAC Golf Tournament
Final preparations are underway for the 10th Annual MAC Golf Scramble to be held on Friday, MAY 12th at the one and only Theo Wirth Golf & Yacht Club. Top notch facility, maybe nothing better in the state. We had 72 players last year and it looks like even more this year. We’ll play an 18-hole “best ball” scramble event, so being a real golfer isn’t important – at all. Seriously, most people playing in this are pretty terrible.
Wirth is accommodating a modified shotgun for us this year, which means we’ll all tee off at roughly the same time, on different holes. And the nice thing about that is we all finish at roughly the same time as well. Good stuff. No waiting around for hours for everyone to get in.
1. Sign Up
To register, click here to sign up and pay by credit card. The cost is $100 and includes 18 holes of golf, a power cart, longest/closest/straightest/etc. hole awards, a hole in one contest, some very nice swag items for each golfer, and a burger/brat/pulled pork kind of buffet right after golf – oh, and of course the MAC gals and their jello shots! Hey-o! You aren’t on the list until you’ve registered and paid. Please don’t wait until the last minute, as some of what we’re planning depends on numbers. Also, please note that you will get an email titled “Your tickets from Edina Morningside Athletic Club”. Keep that email for check-in. If you don’t see it, check your spam filter.
2. MAC Website / Apparel
Phase 1 of the MAC website is complete. We’ll have many more exciting phases to come, but hopefully this will suffice for now. We’ll be adding additional functionalities, as well as additional apparel items in the coming months. If there are any issues or bugs, reach out to me so we can get er fixed. Feel free to place apparel orders at any point. BTW, my personal favorite website photo is future (probably not) MOTY Phil Mero and his belly dance. Solid.
3. Draft Party
In past years we’ve reserved the back room at McCoy’s to draft the foursomes – that date tbd. We’ll select a captain (real golfer) for each foursome and do a draft to fill out the rest of each team. Even if you can’t attend the draft party, no biggy, we’ll still place you on a foursome for the event. We’ll probably drink beer too – cuz we’re really good at that and it makes us way smarter. The Weber Cup and Man-Of-The-Year awards will be on hand for photo opportunities and impromptu nominations. We will accommodate requests to form teams, but this event is about meeting new neighbors. Keep that in mind. And if you stack a team and win by 8 shots, you will be summoned to appear before the MAC founders and explain your transgressions. NOT something you want to do. That’s a stressful situation.
If there are ties this year, we’ll go to a scorecard playoff. The best team score on the #1 handicap hole will win the Weber Cup. If there is a 2-way tie after the scorecard playoff of the #1 handicapped hole, we’ll go to the putting green for a chip off.
Following golf, we’ve reserved the balcony at Wirth to award the Weber Cub to the winning foursome, and to hand out any of the hole prizes. And this year because we’re just nice guys, we’ll be catering in some sort of a burger/brat/pulled pork type of buffet dinner right after golf – and probably a keg of beer if registration numbers are similar to last year. We know from experience that most of you need food to soak up the shots of fireball before heading home to your significant others.
Again this year, after the Weber Cup is awarded at Wirth, we’ll be having an after round par-tay in the hood at the Seim Residence (4115 Morningside Road). We’ll have a few kegs of beer, probably some water, soda, light snacks kind of stuff. Most importantly, as was the case last year, this will be a fun place to gather and tell everyone about your heroic shots (tequila, golf, etc.) you pulled off on the course. It was a bit challenging to accommodate EVERYONE last year, so this year will be the GUYS ONLY. Sorry if that’s not ideal. No kids though, they wouldn’t be proud of what they see.
7. The MOTY
We’ll be awarding the highly coveted MAC Man of the Year Award at the after par-tay, not at the golf course.
8. Let’s do this.
